Outdoor Security Light is the easiest and least expensive way to prevent crime at home or at the office. The right kind of exterior lighting has a great effect on security of a home. Statistics show that homes and businesses with outdoor lighting are less likely to be exposed to criminal acts.

Motion-detectors, light sensors, and timer lighting are 3 types of outdoor light best for security. Motion dectectors sense motion and transform that into electric signals. This can then be programmed to turn a light on or even sound an alarm. Light sensors detect light in the area and trigger lighting systems to come on. Lighting with timers will protect a home or office even when no one is home or the office is closed.

There are two basic types of outdoor security light- HID (High Intensity Discharge) and Halogen. HID lighting is usually found high in trees with a blueish-green color. Halogen lighting is usually used in flood lights on homes.

Brightness and responsiveness are two very important things to look for in outdoor security lights.Outdoor lighting exposes anyone who is coming close, making anyone feel more vulnerable.

Lights with a higher wattage tends to be a better choice when choosing outdoor security lighting but is not actually the right choice. Those lights with a higher wattage tend to create shadows in darker areas. Bright lights also hender a person’s night vision by making it much harder for your eyes to focus. There are times when brighter lights are needed, but not necessary for security purposes. Statistically proven, a darker home or business will more likely attract crime.

There are areas around your home that should be considered when installing outdoor security lights. Lighting should be placed at the garage to light up the driveway. Porches and walkways should be lit to deter anyone from entering the home. By installing lighting at the corners of the home, the entire yard can be seen and watched. The same can be installed at businesses around doorways, walkways and corners to deter those unwelcome.

The most important thing to remember when outdoor security lighting is buy what makes you feel safe in your home, mostly at night. Brightness and motion sensors are definitely two characteristics to look at, but be sure that you choose outdoor security lights that will provide you with a feeling of safety and comfort for you and your family during the nighttime hours.
